Theft
When a person unlawfully takes or exercises unlawful control over moveable property of another with the intent to deprive that person of that property. The property can either be money or personal property owned by the victim.
Theft charges are graded according to the value of the property that was removed.
| Less than $50.00 | Misdemeanor 3 |
| $50.00 to $200.00 | Misdemeanor 2 |
| $200.00 to $2000.00 | Misdemeanor 1 |
| In excess of $2000.00 or if the property is a motor propelled vehicle | Felony 3 |
In most cases where a Defendant is convicted of Theft, the person will be required to either return the property or reimburse the victim for the value of the property as part of the sentence.
